From J. Lo to Steve Madden to make up tricks there are a few key things that amp up Melanie Yate’s (Boise State University) personal style.
Last time we spoke about fashion, you said you were mostly a t-shirt and jeans kind of girl. What about handbags? Shoes? Accessories? “I am still kind of the same. I am a TJ Maxx and Marshall’s girl. There is no specific designer I love and I have never owned a designer handbag. If my husband were to buy one for me of course I would gladly accept it! But, I find it hard to spend that kind of money. I mostly am cheap with myself, but I do buy my husband designer things. I am drawn to Steve Madden shoes. I do a lot of online shopping and I love LuLu’s Boutique and the Mint Julip Boutique online.”
If you were to dump your purse right now what would we find? What are your must haves, cannot-live-without items? “Buxom Lip Gloss in White Russian, it’s like a pale nude and it is awesome! Vaseline because when I am all done with applying my makeup I use it to keep my eyebrows in place and it finishes off my makeup nicely. I find when I do my makeup my eyebrows get powdery and a little bit of Vaseline soaks up the powder and makes them shine just a bit and keeps them in place. The “Egg” is my go to lip balm. I always have hand lotion. Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue, which is my favorite perfume, and I always have to keep sunscreen in my handbag. I work too hard to keep my skin looking good so I always have Neutrogena sunscreen!”
If you could have anyone’s closet on the face of this Earth whose would it be? Why? “Most likely it would be Jennifer Lopez because I like her style. I think even when she is casual she is still sexy. She never looks frumpy and when she is dressed down casual she always has swag and a bit of sassiness.”
How do you like your Marcel to dress? Does he care? Do you care? “I like him to dress the way he dresses. He definitely has his look. He always looks nice in slacks and a Polo shirt. He is never too dressed downed and he carries himself well and always smells really nice! He has a great since of style. My favorite cologne for him is 1 Million by Paco Rabonne. It is the best cologne ever!”
What is your go to outfit when you want to look “casual but sassy?” “Wedges for sure, either sandals or booties. Either skinny jeans or some sort of jean with a little flare and it depends on how I am feeling and how high my wedges are! A cute form-fitting t-shirt or a blouse that is light and airy. I always have to wear hoop earrings!”
What would you like to wear that you don’t? “I would like to wear more skirts and shorts but I don’t because I am self-conscious about my legs. I don’t know why, but I am! I see so many women in cute shorts or skirts and as soon as I try them on I look in the mirror and say, ‘No I won’t be wearing those.’ My husband always, ‘I don’t understand what you mean. You look great!’”
